Oral surgery and Medicaid is a joke!?
My dentist pulled out a wisdom tooth last year that was growing in sideways. Unfortunately, the root is still there after all this time, and it's gotten infection at least three times now. This is the third, and I'm getting tired of it. My dentist said it'll come out on it's own. After a year, I think we all know it's not going to. I asked my dentist to get rid of the root. She refused, saying she's not qualified for it, and referred me to the SIU (Southern Illinois University) school of dental medicine. They accept Medicaid, but they told me to wait a year. I don't think infections are going to leave me alone for a year! The gum still hasn't closed, and all that's open. Medicaid refuses to pay for any and all oral surgeons, including the SIU and I'll have to pay 50% of what they don't pay and that's a thousand dollars, at least, in cash I don't have. There's one in Springfield who'll do it for kids, not adults. What then? Penicillin is not going to hold back the tide the entire year. Why'd my dentist break off the tooth and leave the root there? She should have done something about it as she was the one who didn't pull it out properly. She wouldn't even give me any medications for the infections because and I quote “I'm not an oral surgeon.” I had to go to my family doctor for that, and even he couldn't refer me to a dentist who could pull the rest out. I just don't want this root to become an abcess that can and will eat upwards, and that's fatal. Anybody in Illinois know of any dentist that are actually in the saving-lives/quality-of-life dental business instead of for the money?
